Sizing & Fit

Which size should I choose?

• Small: Best for shoulder-length, fine hair.

• Standard: Fits most! Ideal for shoulder-length thick hair, mid-back length hair, or longer fine hair.

• Large: Best for longer, thick hair.

Torn between two sizes? Go with Standard! If you're still not sure, send us a message and we’ll help you choose. If you saw this after placing an order, reach out to us before it ships and we will easily adjust it for you.

Will it work on both fine and thick hair?

Yes! The wrap holds the length for both fine and thick hair. Just pull it tight as you wrap if you want a snugger fit.

Usage & Versatility

Is billybun only for scuba diving?

No! While designed with divers in mind, it’s made for ocean lovers in general—whether you’re surfing, snorkeling, swimming, on boat days, visiting waterfalls, camping, or taking spontaneous swims. It’s also great as a ponytail wrap under moped, motorcycle, or ski helmets, as well as for hikes, runs, and gym sessions.

Can I wear it another way besides a bun?

Yes! Starting with the bun is best (and it’s what the sizing is built around), but it also works without the bun cover as a ponytail wrap or pulled through a braid. This is especially handy to wear under a hood or helmet.

Can I put it in when my hair is wet?

Yes. billybun is made for wet, salty, ocean hair and will still significantly cut down on tangles. Pro tip: We recommend rinsing your hair with fresh water before jumping in the ocean to help prevent salt damage!

Hair Ties & Product Mechanics

Does it come with hair ties, or can I use my own?

Each billybun comes with a hair tie included, but you can easily swap it out for your own! It works with the hair tie you already own because the best hair tie is usually the one you’ve been loyal to for years.

What happens if the elastic wears out?

Saltwater, sun, and everyday adventures naturally wear elastics down over time. We designed billybun so the main hair tie can be easily swapped out instead of throwing the whole product away. The elastic inside the bun cover is also replaceable—it just takes a little extra care, so reach out to us if this happens!

How long does it take to put in?

About twenty seconds! Simply tie a ponytail, wrap, curl, and cover.

Materials, Care & Longevity

What is it made of?

billybun is made from two pieces of high-quality fabric (nylon & spandex) and a durable bungee cord. There are no clips, no metal, and nothing to corrode in saltwater.

How do I care for my billybun?

Rinse with fresh water after ocean or pool use, gently squeeze out excess water, and let it air dry. Avoid leaving it damp in a bag for days—she’s cute, but fabric can start to smell if left wet! You can also pop it into a cold washing machine cycle (we recommend using a laundry bag) and air dry.

Can I use it in chlorine?

Yes! Just be sure to rinse it thoroughly with fresh water afterward, as chlorine can be harsh on fabric and elastic over time.

How long will it last?

billybun is designed to stay with you for as long as possible. As we continue to test and refine our small batches, we hope you won't need to replace the internal elastic within the first 12 months, but please let us know if you ever experience any issues!

Is it handmade?

Yes! Each billybun is individually handmade in small batches while we test, improve, and grow. Because of this, small, natural variations in fabric feel or sizing are part of its unique character.

Tangles & Performance Expectations

Will it completely stop my hair from knotting?

No—and nothing will! billybun is designed to dramatically reduce knots, movement, and post-ocean hair chaos, but everyone’s hair is different. Our goal is to make post-swim hair manageable, not pretend saltwater magically stops being saltwater.

What if it doesn't hold my hair?

We want you to love it! If it doesn't work for your hair, email us within 60 days at hello@billybun.com and we will issue a refund. No complicated forms required.

When will my order ship and how long does delivery take?

• Processing & Pre-Orders: Products marked as pre-order take up to 14 days to be dispatched. Ready-to-ship orders are packed and dispatched within 1–3 business days. Need it for a specific trip? Reach out and we’ll do our best to help!

• Standard Australia Delivery: Estimated 3–7 business days after dispatch.

• International Delivery: Estimated 3–14 business days (up to 21 business days for some locations).
